002 -- the nokia 6300 + the eclipse -- april 9 2024my nokia 6300 came in yesterday! this phone sucks so bad. i love it, but it only worked with my network for about an hour. it's beautiful, everything i want in a phone besides an e-ink screen. kaios does suck as much as everyone says it does, it's just a bunch of bloatware. really wish this phone just... worked.
something that also happened yesterday: the solar eclipse. i don't have any hot takes on the event, it was just a marvel.

001 -- unemployment & digital minimalism -- april 3 2024
yesterday i quit my job on the spot. it really sucked, but now i've been granted the time to get away from my iphone.
i've been back and forth with digital minimalism, always struggling to keep the habit off. i only finished the book 3 days ago after spot reading for a little under 2 months.
"An important read with many true-to-life examples and stories to compliment the philosophies of the book. The application methods presented in the book are catered towards average 9-5, family-oriented person, but ideas are laid out in a way that leaves the reader to create their own path. As a teenage girl, the ideas of this book are valuable but difficult to make use of. A particularly boring read, I found myself picking it up by willpower, despite having a genuine interest in the topic. In short, Cal Newport is as great writer and outlines an extremely important set of digital values in Digital Minimalism. With that being said, I hope I took sufficient notes, because I'm not too keen about picking it up again" (via goodreads)There were some pieces of advice Newport dished out that were absolutely great; sports clubs, second phone, social media practices. I was super interested in sports clubs, or taking yoga classes, but the recreation center nearby doesn't offer those kinds of classes. sports clubs run off of memberships as well, and im not too of such a model, really.
I don't have much to say about this book and I fear that it's because I had read it over such a long period of time. I'll have more thoughts at some point.
